Project David's Shield Update: Prayer Shield for David’s Shield
Shalom from Jerusalem!
Many of you may have heard that there has been an escalation of rockets from the Gaza region into southern Israel last month, including an anti-tank missile hitting a school bus leaving one 16 year old boy dead a few weeks later. After the terror organizations fired Grad rockets at Beersheba and Ashdod for the first time since Operation Cast Lead, many complained that the IDF was too restrained in their retaliations. Everyone knows that the IDF has much greater power and capabilitiesand many felt that the IDF should use all of their forces. On the ground reality is much more complicated and there are other considerations Israel is concerned about, including unwanted escalations from Gaza. Therefore the delicate balance is very important and the IDF needs to transmit a message to the terrorists, while at the same time the Israeli army needs to know where and when to stop their return fire. Truth is, Hamas in the Gaza Strip has been busy rebuilding its forces for the past two years and this can only mean that the IDF will be eventually facing an all-out confrontation. There are sources within the IDF that estimate that the clashes around the Gaza Border fence will continue and the Israeli soldiers are on high alert. It’s clear that the terror organizations are highly motivated and the Israeli soldiers know that the next event will take everyone by surprise. When asked by the media if there is a possibility of a wide scale operation in Gaza a cabinet member of the Security Council said, “in any event, it is not in our interest to launch an extensive operation until after Independence Day (May 10 th this year), so for now, we seek to calm things down. However, if the rocket fire is resumed and Israel is hit, there is no telling what will happen.”During the recent escalations the Iron Dome missile defense system batteries did an outstanding job, but it was obvious to the IDF that the Iron Dome will not be able to deal with a massive barrage of missiles for long, mainly because of financial restraints. Therefore the goal for the IDF is to restore a relative calm and lead to a truce in accordance to Hamas’ conduct. Please pray that there will be a cessation of violence and for the means for the IDF to be able to manufacture more Iron Dome’s to protect Israeli lives in the future. “Arise O Lord, confront Him, bring him low; deliver my soul from the wicked with Your sword.” (Psalms 17:13)
